Thermostable nuclease: a study of clinical impact.

چکیده
bayberry treatment of cholera described in ancient Chinese medicine. We found that an extract derived from a simple and rapid extraction of bayberry fruits could repress V. cholerae virulence gene expression at low concentrations and inhibit V. cholerae growth at high concentrations. Intriguingly, this bayberry extract did not inhibit or kill many non-pathogenic bacteria tested, including Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis (data not shown). The narrow-spectrum bactericidal activity of the bayberry extract may thus preserve normal intestinal flora during treatment. Thus far, there has been little success in finding cheap and effective treatments for poverty-associated infectious diseases like cholera. For example, although Hung et al. reported a compound that can specifically inhibit V. cholerae virulence gene expression in vitro and in vivo, such compounds must be artificially synthesized. Further study is necessary to reveal the exact nature of bayberry extract inhibition of V. cholerae infection, but consumption of bayberry fruits or fruit extracts may prove to be a cheap alternative therapy for cholera in many developing countries.

Evaluation of three test procedures for identification of Staphylococcus aureus from clinical sources.
A total of 520 clinical and environmental isolates of the family Micrococcaceae that fermented glucose anaerobically were tested for their ability to produce coagulase, thermostable nuclease, and deoxyribonuclease. Of these, 450 isolates coagulated rabbit plasma, produced thermostable nuclease, and were identified as Staphylococcus aureus, 447 of which produced a 3+ to 4+ clot. The remaining th...
متن کاملCharacterization of a novel thermostable nuclease homolog (NucM) in a highly divergent Staphylococcus aureus clade.
A thermostable nuclease homologue (NucM) in an animal-associated divergent clade of Staphylococcus aureus in sub-Saharan Africa has a highly divergent nucleotide sequence compared to those of the classical nuc1 and nuc2 genes of S. aureus. Its deduced amino acid sequences, tertiary structures, and nuclease activities, however, are similar.
متن کاملComparison of rabbit and pig plasma in the tube coagulase test.
A total of 627 clinical isolates of Micrococcaceae were characterized accoridng to their ability to coagulate rabbit and pig plasma, produce thermostable nuclease, and anaerobically ferment glucose and mannitol. By using these characteristics, 416 of the isolates were classified as Staphylococcus aureus and 211 as non-S. aureus. All 416 strains produced a 3 to 4+ clot formation in heparinized p...
متن کاملEfficacy of thermostable I-2 Newcastle disease vaccine compared to B1 commercial vaccine in broiler chicken
Frequent vaccination failures have occurred in the broiler farms in Eurasian countries during Newcastle disease outbreaks. The disease is enzootic in many countries of the region, especially in southwest Asia. I-2 vaccine has been used successfully in village chickens in many Asian and African countries. Our preliminary study showed good efficacy of the vaccine in broiler chickens. Therefore th...
متن کاملCharacterization of a novel non-specific nuclease from thermophilic bacteriophage GBSV1
BACKGROUND Thermostable enzymes from thermophiles have attracted extensive studies. In this investigation, a nuclease-encoding gene (designated as GBSV1-NSN) was obtained from a thermophilic bacteriophage GBSV1 for the first time. RESULTS After recombinant expression in Escherichia coli, the purified GBSV1-NSN exhibited non-specific nuclease activity, being able to degrade various nucleic aci...
